Hi everyone,
I just came back from Florida sick as a dog with a wicked flu virus. Me and my kids were as sick as I think we've ever been (some type of turbo Florida killer virus) Anyway, I am slowly recovering, but need some advice on nutrition to help my body recover and regain strength...I have to get ready for the new DVD's!! :D Thanks for any input! All I can suggest Les is lots of water to flush out any yucky stuff still running through your body. That and anti-oxidant type foods, i.e., berries, vieggies with lots of color.

Hope you are back on track soon.

Try a three day juice fast. Do you have a fruit juicer? If not, then DO NOT drink any store bought juice. Only drink the juice if it is real juice straight from the fruit, juiced in front of your own eyes! If you can't do the real juice with a juicer, then eat the whole fruit. This is equal to juicing. Juicing or eating the whole fruit are interchangeable. Eat/juice any fruits EXCEPT bananas. No bananas. And you may also include carrots.....and tomatos too. Even if you can't make it the full three days, do it for at least 24 hrs. You can also add in brown rice if you like...this helps make it seems more like you are eating something else besides fruit! But just plain brown rice, no toppings. Also, drink lots of water, and boil ginger root and drink the hot tea it makes. And if it is available, do a shot of fresh wheatgrass juice a day. If no fresh juice, you can buy frozen shots at health stores. Also, try making a steam facial with eucalyptous oil, or cedar branches. And put hot tea bags over the eyes.

You will be amazed at this, because unlike western medicine (ie. sudafed, benadril, alka selter, theraflu, etc.) which are poisonous toxins, the natural fruits are like POWER medicine! This natural "medicine" is even better than what they are making at the factories for profit. Oddly enough, I had a mild flu a couple weeks ago and I did my juice/fruit, etc. thing, and it was perfect! and of course, get AT LEAST 8 hrs of sleep per night, take a day or 2 off of work, and when you are back on the upswing, ease back into your fitness routine with some gentle yoga.

I hope you try this! Let me know how it works for you!

The only problem I have with a juice fast on the heels of the flu is no "heavy" nutrients, and you'll need those to build back up your strength. I so agree with water, water, water, fruit, hot teas, gatorade, and soups. Tomatoes have fantastic beneficial properties, as do blueberries. Aspirin, if you take it -- aspirin, aspirin, water, water, and be sure to get some sort of nutrients with light soups. Best wishes for your recovery! :)

re: Aspirin:
This is another western med that should be avoided. There are numerous published studies that prove aspirin/tylenol/advil, etc., contain chemicals/toxins, that once you stop taking them, you suffer a withdrawal from these chemicals....which causes more headaches. So, the more you take headache medicine, the more headaches you will have, as it sets you into a cycle of the withdrawal induced headaches. For more details on this, check out drweil.com. Also, in Chinese medicine terms, headaches originate in the kidneys, and western headache medicines work on the kidneys, hence again, inducing more headaches. So the best medicine for headaches, is rest...hot teabags on the eyes, steam facials, yoga poses, hanging your neck of the edge of your bed, and of course, mint oils on the temples and around the eyes, etc.

In terms of the fruit/juice fast and the lack of a boost they may, or may not cause (depends on the person): The purpose of juice/fruit fasts is to release toxins, illness, etc. So it is natural and intended that the body feels a lack of energy during this kind of fast. This lack in energy is caused by the body focusing all of it's energy inward, and on releasing the toxins....this is why it is called a detox. You are not meant to be bounding with energy during a detox....you are meant to slow down so that the body can focus it's energy on releasing all the toxins and bad stuff. Then, once the detox is over, and once you are finished with your fruit/juice fast for a flu detox....MAN will you feel GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! :D
